The Deaf Animal Orchestra started out early 2006 as a stripped down, three-piece rock group. Three years later, after an EP, four single releases and the addition of a new fourth member just last year, we’re almost finished the recording of our first full-length album. In our short couple of years in business we’ve… toured Ireland, formed our own indie label, made our presence felt on national radio, played a number of showcase festivals, survived band room fires and drink-driving and lots of those other things that only happen when you’re in a band. Our intention right at this moment is to write unashamedly big, epic rock tunes. We’re pushing our sound to see how big we can make it.
Our group is made up of Joe Harney on vocals, guitar and piano, Alex Soikans on guitar, Alan Davy on bass guitar and Niall Hogan on drums and percussion. Our music buddies know us as Deaf Joe, Deaf Niall etc… The music has so far been commented on as falling somewhere between Muse, Sigur Ros, Kings Of Leon and Radiohead. Joe also works writing music for theatre and dance productions, and regularly plays live with one of Ireland’s rising stars Katie Kim. Niall also plays with the percussion troupe Torann, who’ve performed all over Europe. The four-piece Deaf Animals’ line-up has played close to sixty gigs together in the past year, honing our live show and sound.
We’re currently working with Irish producer Martin Quinn finishing what will be our first album which is scheduled for completion in May. A project to produce videos accompanying each and every album track is in motion. This coming May will also see us release a separate track, ‘No Wit Can Save Me Now’ on limited edition vinyl in Ireland.
